È un viaggio inquietante nell'espressione contemporanea e ambiante con un riferimento musicale diretto al lavoro di Jim a parte la citazione o il campione dispari. I vari musicisti usano chitarra acustica, sax, trombone, contrabbasso, violoncello, strumenti orientali e percussioni, spesso combinando lì il lavoro con manipolazioni a nastro e "radiazioni cosmiche di fondo"!

Questo imponente set di 4 CD è stato realizzato "da fan hard core - per fan hard core" . È un progetto non ufficiale e non disponibile sul mercato ma sarà presto disponibile per il download gratuito. Il tutto nasce da un'idea dell'archivista e musicista di Hendrix Kurt Max. Sul forum electricskychurch.org (di cui è uno degli amministratori), ha invitato a partecipare musicisti da tutto il mondo e ha anche raccolto altro materiale correlato dai suoi archivi.
Quindi, uno sguardo alla lista delle tracce mostra che tra i partecipanti relativamente sconosciuti, ci sono anche interpretazioni di canzoni di Hendrix di Mick Jagger, Frank Zappa, Johnny Winter, Spirit e Graham Bonnet. Ci sono anche Noel Redding, Billy Cox e il fratellastro di Jimi Leon, che canta e suona la chitarra in una delle sue composizioni mentre Kurt suona tutto l'accompagnamento! Kurt ci regala anche alcune delle sue copertine di Hendrix e tra tutto il materiale dei fan ci sono un paio di Rudy Kronfuss (i suoi CD tributi sono dettagliati nella prima pagina Tributi qui) e persino il mio amico Régis (alias Ayler) del super Forum Jimi Hendrix (http://hendrix.aceboard.fr).
La cosa fantastica di questa raccolta è la ricca varietà di stili e la scelta di brani raramente trattati, come "Pali Gap", "Astro Man", "Hey Baby", "Villanova Junction" , ecc. Alcune interpretazioni sono molto fedeli, altre esplorare nuove direzioni. Il tutto è ovviamente pieno zeppo di ricchi assoli di chitarra che è ciò che la gente vuole, giusto?
Se non è tutto, nel Disco 4, Kurt ha incluso un gruppo di rarità di Jimi Hendrix in persona! Sono tracce che sono apparse brevemente su un sito russo alcuni anni fa, prima di scomparire del tutto. Quel "Hear My Freedom" suona come se fosse della jam di Lee Michaels (come si sente nel bootleg "Ball & Chain"). "Inst. 4564" è strano, penso di ricordare questa figura sinuosa da Univibes "Calling Long Distance" ma qui il suono è molto pulito e ci sono sovraincisioni di archi e timpani (presumibilmente dell'era di Alan Douglas). Il "Tax Free" incompleto potrebbe provenire da Winterland 68 (da confermare). Infine "Traccia 01" che conosco come "Jazz Jimi Jazz"dalla pubblicazione Purple Haze Records "Axis Outtakes" ma qui il suono è molto chiaro.
