Il secondo grande successo dei Byrds era stato scritto dal grande folk singer americano Pete Seeger che non l'aveva però pubblicata in una sua versione. Ispirato a un brano della Bibbia contenuto nel libro Qoelet, o Ecclesiaste, titolo completo Turn! Turn! Turn! (To Everything There Is a Season), trasforma i celebri versi del libro sacro, nell'ultima strofa, in una canzone che inneggia alla pace, proprio negli anni della guerra in Vietnam. Successo da classifica per i Byrds nel 1965, per 11 settimane nella top-40 USA, sicuramente il messaggio profondo della canzone è arrivato ai ragazzi americani degli anni '60.
I Byrds nel 1965 erano David Crosby (chitarra e voce), Roger McGuinn (chitarra e voce), Gene Clark(chitarra e voce), Chris Hillman (basso), Michael Clarke (batteria), ritratti da sinistra a destra nella copertina del singolo riprodotta sopra. Fino al 1965 gran parte delle canzoni erano state composte da Gene Clark, che lascerà però il gruppo quell'anno. I maggiori successi erano stati però due cover in chiave beat / rock di due brani folk, Mr. Tambourine Man da Bob Dylan e questa Turn! Turn! Turn da Pete Seeger.
In una intervista del 1988 per un libro del giornalista USA Paul Zollo, "Songwriters On Songwriting", Pete Seeger ha raccontato la genesi di questa canzone e come è riuscito a far arrivare al grande pubblico dei giovani una canzone di protesta:  "I don't read the Bible that often. I leaf through it occasionally and I'm amazed by the foolishness at times and the wisdom at other times. I call it the greatest book of folklore ever given. Not that there isn't a lot of wisdom in it. You can trace the history of people poetically."
"I got a letter from my publisher, and he says, 'Pete, I can't sell these protest songs you write.' And I was angry. I sat down with a tape recorder and said, 'I can't write the kind of songs you want. You gotta go to somebody else. This is the only kind of song I know how to write.' I pulled out this slip of paper in my pocket and improvised a melody to it in fifteen minutes. And I sent it to him. And I got a letter from him the next week that said, 'Wonderful! Just what I'm looking for.' Within two months he'd sold it to the Limelighters and then to the Byrds. I liked the Byrds' record very much, incidentally. All those clanging, steel guitars - they sound like bells." I Limelighters o Limeliters erano un trio folk country formatosi nel 1959, parte del revival folk dei primi anni '60 in USA.
